15 Slingshot Challenge Finalists Unveiled
At the National Geographic Society, we believe that young people hold the key to building a sustainable future. That’s why we challenged 13-18 year-olds to slingshot our planet forward with innovative new ideas around conservation solutions. Thanks to educators across the world, thousands of young voices answered the call.
We asked Slingshot Challenge participants to create a one-minute video outlining an innovative solution to an environmental issue that they’re passionate about. Topics included cleaning our air, restoring our ocean, protecting nature, building a waste-free world, and addressing climate change.
Thousands of young leaders around the world submitted innovative solutions to help move our planet towards a more sustainable future. We’re excited to showcase their work and ideas on a global stage and are deeply impressed by the passion, creativity, and ingenuity of all the submissions we received.

You and your students can nominate your favorite finalist video for the People’s Choice Award by visiting the Slingshot Challenge Finalist Showcase. The voting period closes on April 28, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. EDT.
The winners and People’s Choice Award will be announced May 5, 2023, 10:30am EST during a virtual awards ceremony. The winners will then be invited to attend the National Geographic Society’s “Explorers Festival,” an annual event taking place at National Geographic Headquarters in Washington, D.C., this June. While at Headquarters, also known as Base Camp, Slingshot Challenge winners will meet Explorers, extend and strengthen their ideas, and join forces with like-minded youth to create real-world impact.
