This week is Explorers Week, when National Geographic brings together some of the most interesting scientists and explorers making a difference in the world today.

In honor of the occasion, the Education team challenged a group of local teachers to design an end-of-year project focusing on one of National Geographic’s 2016 Emerging Explorers. We’ll be sharing their class’ stories all week on the Education Blog.

My students researched about our explorer, Thandiwe Mweetwa, and were really inspired by her story. We recorded her a podcast episode and published it on our school podcast feed.

Dear Thandiwe: I’m inspired by how easily you adjusted to living in a completely different place and how it has become what your life is devoted to. It is important to save lions because they serve a very crucial role in the balance of ecosystems.
