National Geographic’s Explorer Classroom connects classrooms around the world with National Geographic Explorers, bringing science, exploration, and conservation to life through live video events. Watch our video!

Each month Explorer Classroom features a new theme and provides supporting resources for educators. Throughout the school year, classes can also join explorers live on expedition through our In the Field series.

We’re thrilled to announce that our October theme for Explorer Classroom is Reefs! Your students can learn the risks our reefs are facing, what they mean for the future, and what we can all do to help. Register your classroom to talk directly to the explorers working to protect our reefs.

10/15 | 11:00 AM ET

Erika Woolsey | Marine Biologist & Technologist

Explorer Erika Woolsey researches the Great Barrier Reef. She’s investigating how warming ocean temperatures affect coral health, growth, and development.

10/10 | 9:00 AM ET

Emma Camp | Marine Bio-geochemist

Explorer Emma Camp is a marine bio-geochemist. Her research looks at unusual reef environments like mangrove habitats. She’s working to understand the traits coral will require to survive climate change.

10/16 | 3:30 PM ET

Jonatha Giddens | Ocean Conservation Ecologist

Explorer Jonatha Giddens is developing a research program to understand deep-sea health. She is using drop cams and deep-sea exploration technology to establish an index of ecosystem health and to protect biodiversity in the deep sea. Her previous project researched the impacts of introduced marine species to near-shore coral reef ecosystems.
