Mo Rocca to Moderate 2016 National Geographic Bee

52a9fbb4-b211-4ecb-bd02-ddfc0e9e72eeIt’s another busy, exciting year for the National Geographic Bee. Over the past seven months, around 3 million students in almost 10,000 schools across the country have participated in their school bees and taken the qualifying test to participate in the state competition.

Those state Bees are coming up quickly on April 1, but we have some exciting news about the Bee that just couldn’t wait until then. This year, the 28th National Geographic Bee will welcome journalist, humorist and actor Mo Rocca as the new National Geographic Bee moderator.

No stranger to competition, Mo is a frequent panelist on NPR’s weekly quiz show Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me! and has memorized the capital of every country in the world. He also hosts The Henry Ford’s Innovation Nation on CBS. His enthusiasm for National Geographic Society’s educational mission and his passion for learning about the world make him a perfect fit for the National Geographic Bee.

Mo is a correspondent for CBS Sunday Morning and spent four seasons as a correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He began his career in TV as a writer and producer for the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning PBS children’s series Wishbone. Mo starred on Broadway in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and is the author of All the Presidents’ Pets, a historical novel about White House pets and their role in presidential decision-making.

You can watch Mo in action as he moderates the National Geographic Bee when it airs on the National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo WILD on May 27 at 8:00 pm EST, and later on public television stations across the country.
