GeoPivot

This blog is written by National Geographic Education Social Media & Promotion Intern, Amelia Tidona, as a part of the Geography Awareness blog-a-thon.

GeoPivot is a fun, fresh, highly visual e-magazine with a focus on newcomers to geography and GIS. It is a place for students, young professionals, and career flippers to connect with each other and share stories about their geo journeys. A newly launched online magazine and community, GeoPivot makes professional development fun and fast with Geo Story Snacks (short blog posts and video clips you can munch on in 5 minutes or less).  Stories focus on topics like how get started in a geography career, get hired, get promoted, & most importantly, how to get involved in the geo-community.

This week, GeoPivot is working with National Geographic Society to celebrate Geography Awareness Week! The magazine is highlighting five young innovative professionals and students in geography fields.  Yesterday’s interview featured geo business starter, Reed Tomlinson and today’s follows globetrotter & geo-student, Lauren Herwehe. Find out how these young people are blazing the trail in geography.

There will be new interviews featured on GeoPivot’s website throughout the week including one with National Geographic Education’s very own, Sam Zuhlke. The week will culminate with a Group Google Geo Hangout on Friday, so be sure to keep checking in!

Do you have advice or questions to add to the discussion? TONIGHT from 8-9pm EST, National Geographic Education, GeoPivot, NCGE, AAG, ESRI and others will be leading a Twitter Chat to celebrate Geoweek and discuss all topics and questions related to Geography Education using #Geotweet! We hope to see YOU tweet with us!
