Kayla Anthony is the Community Outreach Coordinator at T-Town PAWS, Inc. In May of 2010, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in public relations and geography from The University of Alabama. Her geographic work experience includes the Tuscaloosa County Courthouse Map Department, the UA Geography Department, and Placenames Research. It was all an accident.
I wasn’t supposed to major in urban
planning. Four short years ago, I knew nothing about geography or
planning. The term “urban planning” wasn’t even in my vocabulary. A
friend recommended that I take a geology class to fulfill my science
requirement; however, being new to the college registration process, I
accidentally registered into my first geography class.
My first
week of geography class was another round of accidents. First, I
purchased the wrong textbook. Then, I attended the wrong physical
geography lab. But I ended up meeting my lifelong friend and colleague
who would influence me to study urban planning.
